Limit on GRV related charge increases

Where charges are based on GRV any increase in charges from one year to the next is capped.

The maximum increase for 2011/12 is 13% for the following charges:

  • Sewerage: Residential Metro, Residential Country, all Vacant Land charges
  • Drainage: (Metro) Non-Residential

The maximum increase for Metropolitan Residential and Vacant Land drainage is capped at $25.00

Example of a percentage limitation on a sewer charge

A residential property in Perth is charged $363.70 annual sewer charges in 2010/11.

2011/12 charges based on the property’s GRV are calculated as follows:

13,500 x 4.01 cents in the dollar = $541.35

Charges for 2011/12 are therefore capped at $411.00 (i.e. $363.70 + (13% x $363.70)).

Where a limit on increase applies to a service, it will show on the back of your account.

NOTE: Where a change in services provided or a change in the GRV occurs (e.g. because additions are done to the property), any limit on increase will be based on a notional charge for the year before.
