Limit on GRV Related Charge Increases

Where charges are based on GRV any increase in charges from one year to the next is capped.

The maximum increase for 2010/11 is 12.1% for the following charges:

  • Sewerage: Residential Metro, Residential Country, all Vacant Land charges
  • Drainage: (Metro) Non-Residential

The maximum increase for Metropolitan Residential and Vacant Land drainage is capped at $25.00

Example of a percentage limitation on a sewer charge

A residential property in Perth is charged $346.70 annual sewer charges in 2009/10.

2010/11 charges based on the property’s GRV are calculated as follows:

12,400 x 5.20 cents in the dollar = $540.80

Charges for 2010/11 are therefore capped at $388.65 (i.e. $346.70 + (12.1% x $346.70)).

Where a limit on increase applies to a service, it will show on the back of your account.

NOTE: Where a change in services provided or a change in the GRV occurs (e.g. because additions are done to the property), any limit on increase will be based on a notional charge for the year before.
