  • Exmouth, Denham, Jurien Bay, Mount Magnet and Cue among 40 regional communities participating in the 2021-22 Waterwise Towns program
  • Showerhead Swap and free irrigation and plumbing services among available offers
  • Program saved 15.5 million litres of water in the Mid-West in 2020-21

Residents in Exmouth, Denham, Jurien Bay, Mount Magnet and Cue can take advantage of special water-saving offers as part of Water Corporation's 2021-22 Waterwise Towns program, launched during National Water Week.

The program, which saved 310 million litres of water State-wide in 2020-21, supports regional households to reduce water use and help save money on bills through a range of initiatives.

Exmouth and Mount Magnet residents will again be able to swap up to two old, inefficient showerheads with water-efficient alternatives under the Showerhead Swap program, which is this year also available to residents in Denham, Jurien Bay and Cue.

In 2020-21, 102 Mid-West households saved about two million litres of water through the replacement of 156 showerheads.

Added to the list of offers for Exmouth this year is a free irrigation service. Residents can register for an irrigation specialist to visit their home to complete minor repairs on the sprinkler system and assist customers to program their irrigation controller.

A free plumbing service will also be available to customers in Denham and Jurien Bay. This includes a check for leaks and minor repairs, and an upgrade to water-efficient fittings if required, to help save water.

Offers will be available from October 4, 2021 to May 31, 2022 or, for the Showerhead Swap program, while stocks last.

Comments attributed to Water Minister Dave Kelly:

"The McGowan Government is committed to supporting regional Western Australians to reduce water use and save money on bills through the Waterwise Towns program.

"Given around 22 per cent of all household water use is in the shower, swapping your old showerhead for a water-efficient one at no cost is one of the simplest ways to save water in your home. A water-efficient showerhead can save you around 20,000 litres of water a year.

"This National Water Week I'd like to encourage Mid-West residents to take advantage of these great offers and embrace a waterwise lifestyle, particularly as we continue to meet the challenges posed by climate change."

Comments attributed to Mining and Pastoral Region MLC Peter Foster:

"As someone who lives and works in the region, I know how important it is to be careful with this precious resource, especially as we face the challenges of a changing climate.

"The McGowan Government is delivering a simple and practical way of helping residents in the Mid-West to save money and water.

"It's amazing how much difference a new showerhead can make to a household's bills."
