Environment

The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has allocated a 'Public Environmental Review (PER)' level of assessment for the project, under the Environment Protection Act 1986. The PER document contains the findings of the environmental studies and the management activities that will mitigate potential impacts.

On 21 April 2008 the PER was released for public comment for an eight week period. Submissions closed on 16 June 2008. During this time the Water Corporation implemented a comprehensive community consultation program informing the community about the PER, and providing opportunities to access the team and our peer reviewers.

The Water Corporation will now respond to the issues raised in these submission and the EPA will consider all this information before providing a report and recommendation to the State Minister for Environment. The Minister will then make the final decision as to the environmental acceptability of the project and the conditions that should apply, if it is to go ahead.

As part of the Public Environmental Review (PER) process, the Corporation prepared an Environmental Scoping Document (ESD), to outline the environmental matters being assessed. The ESD was released for a two week public review on 26 November to 10 December 2007. The Corporation received 16 submissions. In early 2008 the EPA approved the ESD as an acceptable basis for the preparation of the PER document.

See below for our response to the issues raised in the submission. For a copy of the submissions (anonymous) please call 1800 810 075 or email us.
