Project Approvals

The Water Corporation reached a critical milestone in late June 2009 when the Federal Government granted conditional environmental approval for the Southern Seawater Desalination Project, the final external approval required.

As was the case with the State Government’s environmental approval, the Federal Government imposed strict conditions on the project to ensure the protection of the Matters of National Environmental Significance protected under the Federal act.  To review both condition sets, please see below.

The Corporation and SSWA welcomed the additional conditions. These conditions, along with the Corporation's management plans will assist in further minimising the project’s potential environmental impacts. 

As part of the conditions, a Revegetation Plan, and more recently a Marine Blasting Management Plan, were developed by the Corporation and approved by for implementation.  Both these plans can be found below.
