The Water Corporation offers an opportunity to get paid while attaining a trade qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Sheet Metal, Carpentry (Formwork), Welding or Boiler making disciplines.

Opportunities are based in a range of operational areas from metropolitan to country areas, depending on the needs of the particular work area.

Who is eligible to apply?

  • Applicants must have successfully completed Year 10 (for the Electrical Trade applicants must have successfully completed Year 12).
  • A pre-apprenticeship course will be well regarded.
  • Applicants must possess good verbal and written communication skills, be committed, enthusiastic and willing to learn new skills in a team environment.
  • Applicants will be subject to a numeric, literacy and mechanical reasoning aptitude test, a pre-employment medical as well as a drug and alcohol clearance

While completing your apprenticeship, you will work in a range of different areas to ensure that you receive the necessary on-the-job training and mentoring as required. 

The Corporation offers excellent wages and conditions, including the payment of course fees and books.

On successful completion, apprentices receive a nationally recognised trade qualification (Certificate III).  Apprentices can then apply for a full time role as a tradesperson at that location or elsewhere within the state.

Long term career path

The career path of an Apprentice may result in the role of a tradesperson, with subsequent opportunities to progress to a supervisory or managerial role such as an Operations Manager.
