Advising Us of Changes

The information included with your initial application for the Industrial Waste service is used by us to administer the service, and to assess any technical requirements necessary to enable you to discharge your wastewater to sewer. Your application form and the information on it forms part of your service contract with us.

If ANY of this information changes, you will need to advise us.

In particular, you will need to advise us if:

  • You add, remove or change any process(es) that in turn cause a change in the type or quantity of the waste you discharge to sewer
  • The business is relocated to another site
  • There is a change in ownership of the business, or
  • There is a change of business name

The process to follow to advise us of these changes depends on whether your wastewater discharge is likely to be affected, or whether the change only impacts on our administration of the service.

Changes Affecting Administration of the Service

For changes to your business details or ownership, you must advise us within 14 days of the change occurring.

Changes Affecting Your Wastewater Discharges

For business relocation or changes to your operations or processes – which could affect the volume, nature or location of your industrial wastewater discharges to sewer – you must tell us at least 14 days in advance. Of course, you should give us more notice if you can, to ensure that any modifications to your service or Permit conditions can be implemented as smoothly as possible.

These changes will require a new assessment by our Industrial Waste Officers, to determine how your wastewater will be affected, and whether any relaxation or tightening of your Permit conditions is appropriate. Consequently, you will need to submit a fresh application for the service, complete with all of the details and attachments relating to your new operations and processes. When your application is processed (and assuming its approved), your existing Permit will be cancelled, and a new Permit with revised conditions will be issued.

Why Does the Water Corporation Need This Information?

The information on your application is vital for ensuring that:

  • Our wastewater system and processes are not disrupted by unexpected wastes entering the system,
  • Protecting public health from potentially dangerous substances in our sewers, and avoiding sewage overflows caused by unauthorised wastes clogging the pipes,
  • Preserving the environmental quality of the receiving waters into which our treated wastewater is ultimately discharged, and
  • Ensuring that our treatment by-products can be disposed of safely, and that our treated wastewater can be reclaimed for re-use in industry or open area landscaping.

The aggregate information on all the industrial wastes entering our system is also used to design, fine-tune and operate our municipal wastewater systems appropriately to be able to handle those wastes, and thus ensure positive community and environmental outcomes. It is therefore vital that we maintain the accuracy of our customer records.

Your obligation to advise us if your situation changes is important not only for our service relationship, but is also important for our shared environment and the wider community.

We are happy to answer any queries you have in relation to changes to your Industrial Waste service, or completing a new application.  Contact us if you would like further assistance.
