| Southern Seawater Desalination Project | |
This State’s next major water source, the Southern Seawater Desalination Plant, is currently under construction just north of Binningup, in the Shire of Harvey.
To ensure effective and efficient distribution of water from this new source, a new pumping station is currently being built at Ravenswood. The pump station will have the capacity to pump 125 to 265million litres of water daily from the Stirling Trunk Main to the Tamworth Reservoir, and 30 to 130 million litres of water each day to Serpentine or North Dandalup Dam via a new, connecting pipeline.
Late last year, the Water Corporation’s Construction Branch finalised the initial earthworks and construction of the pumping station foundation. The third and final phase of construction commenced early 2010 following the appointment of Georgiou Group as the main contractor.
Works in the final phase include construction of the remainder of the pump station and the electrical building along with access tracks and fencing.
Revegetation work will begin in Spring along the western boundary with ground preparation, planting of some trees and seed collection from local species to allow the planting of visual screens with native vegetation. Revegetation works on the southern and eastern boundaries will commence in Autumn 2010.
