The way we read meters is getting smarter with our Smart Metering Trial in Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
Some 13,500 residential and commercial water meters in Kalgoorlie-Boulder have been replaced with ‘Smart Meters’, as part of our Smart Metering Trial.
The second phase of the trial is currently underway and this involves the connection of every new smart meter to the online network. This work is expected to be completed by the end of December (2011).
The new water meters record consumption on an hourly basis and this has the ability to identify constant flow and any unusual increases in demand. We are then able to contact you to advise of a potential leak at your property.
We expect that the technology will help reduce water use in Kalgoorlie-Boulder by 12 per cent, or more than one billion litres per year.
The primary objective of the Smart Metering Trial is to evaluate the customer and business benefits of smart metering technologies. While the two year trial will conclude in June 2012, the smart metering infrastructure installed in Kalgoorlie-Boulder will remain as part of our normal meter reading operations.
