To support Broome town growth and cater for increasing demand for water during tourist season, we plan to upgrade water supply, transfer and storage infrastructure while encouraging water efficient practices in Broome.

In addition to the Broome South wastewater treatment plant which is operating at full capacity, the new $37.2 million Broome North wastewater treatment scheme was officially opened by Water Minister Bill Marmion on 30 September 2011.

We are currently undertaking planning in Derby to ensure the future security of the town's water supply. Wastewater planning has recently been completed in Derby, and projects will be occur as required over the coming years.

We are currently assessing the capability of Kununurra's water supply system, with a view to undertaking planning if required to ensure the future security of the town’s water supply. Wastewater planning is currently underway in Kununurra.

We are providing assistance to LandCorp and the Department of Regional Development and Lands to deliver the new Goomig-Dawang Channel and expansion of the Kununurra irrigation area.

The Kununurra Diversion Dam allows water levels to be maintained in Lake Kununurra to enable water to be delivered via gravity to the majority of the irrigation area. We are currently carrying out a refurbishment program on the gates which is critical for the ongoing operations of the irrigation scheme.
