Mundaring Water Treatment Plant

Helena Water to be awarded Water Treatment Plant Contract

After an extensive evaluation the Water Corporation has selected the preferred proponent for it’s Public Private Partnership (PPP) of the Mundaring Weir Water Supply Improvement Project.

Helena Water was chosen onFebruary 21st, 2011after being short listed amongst 7 potentials. Along with Aquality, thetwo short listed consortia entered a Request for Proposal (RFP) phase in July 2010 where they were given six months to submit a proposal outlining their plans.

Mundaring Weir is vital to securing the State’s water future and its high priority is reflected in the criteria required of the proponent. Water Corporation looked at various criteria when short listing including design, construction and operations water treatment solutions, environmental management strategies, and a proven commitment to maintaining a co-operative and responsive relationship with the community.

Both proponents proposed outstanding teams and proposals. They both have extensive experience and success in a variety of water environmental infrastructure projects and made it a difficult decision to make.

It is based on this rigorous criteria that Helena Water will fund, design, construct, operate, maintain and upgrade the Mundaring Weir Treatment Plant over the next 37 years. Considering the historical and iconic value of the Weir intensive efforts and commitments will continue with the community in gaining their input and feedback.

Helena Water comprises project sponsors Acciona Agua, United Utilities Australia and Royal Bank of Scotland; with designs supported by engineering solutions group, GHD. The Water Corporation is set to award the contract to Helena Water in July 2011.

The Water Corporation would like to thank all who submitted an Expression of Interest for this project, and with sincere regret, wish Aquality the best in their future endeavours.
