Being Waterwise - Saving water in your home

High efficiency showerheads

Save Water, Energy and Money
You probably did not know it, but for every 100 litres of water used inside your home, about 30 litres is used just in the shower. Over a year that's about 43,000 litres of water that goes gurgling down the drain in an average home! You could save a great deal of this precious water just by installing a modern High Efficiency Showerhead. That is a saving of up to $85 a year* in water and electricity charges!

* Savings based on 125 litre storage electric hot water system operating at 60 degrees Celsius

Still Feels Good
High efficiency showerheads are made using new generation design technology that produces small droplets and provides a comfortable stream of water with good wetting characteristics. This means that you're able to get the same enjoyment and result from every shower whilst using less water and less energy. A high efficiency showerhead delivers as little as 9 litres of water per minute compared to 12 litres per minute from traditional showerheads.

It's easy to spot the difference between a modern high efficiency showerhead and an old fashioned shower rose. Look for the Water Efficiency Label. The levels of efficiency rating are similar to school, the more 'Stars' the better the result and the more water you save.

Modern high efficiency shower heads are designed mainly for storage hot water systems. Unfortunately, instantaneous hot water systems do not generate enough pressure to make the high efficiency showerhead work properly.

They're Everywhere
Purchasing a high efficiency showerhead is easy - ask your plumber or specialist hardware store to recommend a high efficiency showerhead most suited to your needs.

The installation of high efficiency showerheads is a relatively low cost way for residents to minimise water and power charges whilst also helping to conserve one of Western Australia's precious resources.
