To improve the security and reliability of Peppermint Grove's water supply, we will be renewing water pipes along Johnston Street.
The new water pipe will be installed into an open trench, down the centre of the west bound lane (from the river towards Stirling Highway). Horizontal drilling will continue the pipe under Stirling Highway to connect to the existing network to the west.
Where is this happening?
Work will take place approximately 900m along Johnston Street between Stirling Highway and Bay View Terrace, in Peppermint Grove.
Pipes will be installed in 3 stages:
Stage 1 Palmerston Street to Bay View Terrace
Stage 2 Stirling Highway to Solomon Street
Stage 3 Palmerston Street to Solomon Street
When is this happening?
Construction work is planned to begin Monday, 2 December 2019. Our contractor DM Civil will be on site prior to construction for service investigations and site preparation.

Work will be completed between 7am and 5pm on weekdays, and Saturdays when required.
How will this impact the community?
Sections of the west bound lane will be closed as the work progresses along the street. The east bound lane (from Stirling Highway to the river) will remain open throughout construction and traffic management will be in place to assist drivers with diversions. Once the pipe has been installed, the road will be temporarily reinstated as work continues along the road. On street parking will be restricted in the area during this time.
Construction work can be noisy and dusty. Aspects of construction including cutting into the road and compacting earth will cause noise and vibration.
Initial geotechnical assessments have identified that possibility of limestone in the areas that will require excavation. Removal of limestone commonly involves rock breakers which can be extremely noisy and cause vibrations. All houses in close proximity to the works are encouraged to partake in a dilapidation survey, offered free of charge by our contractor. Access to your driveway may temporarily be restricted. Our contractors will notify you prior to this occurring; please let them know if you have any concerns.
You may experience a temporary water supply interruption while the new pipe is connected. Our team will notify impacted properties at least 48 hours prior to this occurring. Please contact the Community Engagement Advisor if you have any concerns.
Our construction methods mean unavoidable impact to the road, kerb and verges. Water Corporation, in conjunction with the Shire of Peppermint Grove, has agreed to fully reinstate both lanes of Johnston Street between Stirling Highway and Bay View Terrace. Additional areas impacted by the work will be returned to as close to their original condition as reasonably feasible.
We understand and appreciate that the work may cause temporary inconvenience and disruption, and we will do what we can to minimise impact and complete the work as quickly as possible.
