Project goal:

Installing a new 3.8km section of a below ground treated wastewater pipeline and a transition tower at Point Peron Wastewater Treatment Plant to cater for expected growth and increase in wastewater flows.

Status:

In construction

Delivery date:

October 2020

What's happening?

We’re installing a new 3.8km treated wastewater pipeline next to an existing pipeline in the City of Rockingham.

The pipeline, referred to as the Sepia Depression Ocean Outlet Landline (SDOOL), transports treated water from several wastewater treatment plants in the metropolitan area and other industries to the ocean outfall offshore from Point Peron.

Where is this happening?

We are installing the new section of pipeline from Ritchie Drive in Rockingham to the Water Corporation wastewater treatment site on Point Peron Road.

Why is this work taking place?

Upgrading the wastewater infrastructure will cater for population growth and increases in wastewater flows.

When is this happening?

Construction is underway and is expected to be completed by end October 2020.

How will this impact the community?

We’re installing the pipeline in stages and access to areas along the route may be temporarily restricted for public safety including parts of the Lake Richmond walking track and picnic area and Bayview Reserve. We are planning to keep access to the Bayview Reserve dog exercise area available during the project. We’ll install signage and provide further updates, including consultation with residents directly impacted, as the project progresses.

Traffic management will be in place to direct residents safely around work areas.

We recognise the key environmental values associated with Lake Richmond and Bush Forever sites along the pipeline route and have prepared a Construction Environmental Management Framework and associated management plans to minimise impacts to the environment.

For parkland areas, we are working with the City of Rockingham to develop a plan to rehabilitate the area following the pipeline installation work.
