Pingelly Primary School celebrates a decade of waterwise education
Pingelly Primary School celebrated 10 years enrolled in Water Corporation’s Waterwise Schools Program at a special assembly on Tuesday, 28 November 2017.
Over the last decade teachers at the school have been educating students on the need to value, protect and conserve water resources.
Water Corporation Great Southern Regional Manager, Adrian Stewart, thanked the school for sharing the waterwise message.
“Pingelly Primary School has been sharing the waterwise message for 10 years to ensure students learn about the value of water and how to conserve it,” Mr Stewart said.
"By encouraging our young people to appreciate water and how precious it is, Pingelly Primary School is shaping a new generation of waterwise thinkers.
“Thank you to students and teachers at Pingelly Primary School for your dedication to the Waterwise Schools Program."
Pingelly Primary School Principal, Samantha Mudgway, said the school had focused on the need to respect water as a precious resource that is integral to the local community.
“As a result of the program the students have become aware of the value of water in the environment, not to leave taps running and to take shorter showers,” Ms Mudgway said.
“The biggest change has been planting waterwise plants that can look as stunning as plants those that require a lot of water.”
The Waterwise Schools Program takes a long-term approach to water education and behavioural change, and complements the curriculum across all major learning areas.
