St Emilie’s Catholic Primary School celebrates a decade of waterwise education

Over the last decade teachers at the school have been educating students on the need to value, protect and conserve water resources.

Water Corporation General Manager Customer and Community Group Catherine Ferrari thanked the school for sharing the waterwise message.

“In our drying climate it’s important the next generation are aware of how precious water is and St Emilie’s Catholic Primary School has been sharing this message for 10 years,” Ms Ferrari said.

"Thank you to students and teachers at St Emilie’s Catholic Primary School for your dedication to the program.”

St Emilie’s School’s Waterwise Coordinator, Kerrie Cogger said the school community recognised water was a precious, yet limited resource that required future generations to have a clear understanding of the need to conserve and protect it.

“Our lessons equip students to make informed decisions about water related issues such as water management, wastewater, drainage, revegetation and conservation,” Ms Cogger said.

“We have put these lessons into practice by caring for and revegetating the bushland area in our school.  We also teach our students to look for different ways to conserve and save water at home and at school.”

Our students are 21st century citizens and educating them now with the Waterwise message means that they can be aware and also educate others their entire lives.

The Waterwise Schools Program takes a long-term approach to water education and behavioural change, and complements the curriculum across all major learning areas.
