Water Corporation CEO to hand over the reins after a decade in the role (Minister)

20/06/2018

Water Corporation chief executive officer Sue Murphy today announced that she has decided not to renew her contract, which expires at the end of the year.

Mrs Murphy has spent a decade as CEO, and has played a key role in Western Australia's future by maintaining water supplies at a demanding and complex time of declining rainfall and resources-led growth.

She was appointed as CEO in November 2008, and is only the second person to fill the role since the Water Corporation was first established in January 1996.

The recruitment process for the Water Corporation's next CEO will be led by the Board, and will include a national search.

Comments attributed to Water Minister Dave Kelly:

"I thank Sue for her strong contribution to managing the Water Corporation over the last 10 years.

"She has been a figurehead for efforts to secure Perth's water supplies, for now and well into the future, at a time of climate change.

"Her leadership has enabled the Water Corporation to undertake a program of capital works to diversify water sources, which is the envy of many cities around the world.

"But her focus has not only been on infrastructure, Sue has encouraged the community to use their environmental spirit and reduce its water use."

Comments attributed to Water Corporation chief executive officer Sue Murphy:

"During my time as CEO, I have enjoyed working with successive governments, including the current one, to ensure our water supplies became more resilient to climate change.

"The next step of our journey is digital transformation and I feel it is time for someone else to take the reins to lead the Water Corporation through this next period.

"I love the Water Corporation, its people, intellect, purpose and role as an enabler of virtually everything that happens in our State. It has been my absolute privilege to lead the organisation."
