Water Corporation warns about bogus callers

6/07/2018

Water Corporation has received a number of calls from its customers after they received a knock on their front door from someone claiming to test the water in their area. Always ask someone claiming to be from Water Corporation for identification

Water Corporation spokesperson Clare Lugar said its employees did not need to enter a house to check water quality.

“You should never let anyone inside your home until you have asked to see an identification card – our employees will always carry one,” Ms Lugar said.

“If in any doubt, ask them for their name and call us on 13 13 75 to confirm they are from the Water Corporation.”

Ms Lugar said the most recent report it received was from the Yanchep area.

“Please be cautious and if you are still unsure do not open the door,” she said.  “You must feel absolutely comfortable with anyone you allow into your home.”

What bogus callers may do…

  • Work in pairs (although only one may identify themselves to you).
  • Not be happy to handover identification badge for closer examination.
  • Not have an official uniform, or have an official vehicle.
  • Try and make you feel under pressure.

To report suspicious activity call Police immediately on 131 444. In a life threatening emergency call 000.
