Pre-Primary–Year 2

Using the character of Wasteful Wilbur, students participate in role-play activities to show ways that water can be wasted and how they can be ‘waterwise’. During this activity, students will learn about the importance of water in our lives and why we need to conserve it.

  • Session length – 30 minutes
  • Maximum number of students – 30

  • Understand the importance of water in our everyday lives.
  • Understand why we shouldn’t waste water.
  • Identify simple ways they can change their behaviours to reduce the amount of water they use.

Years 3–6

Using a game, students will estimate the percentages of household water use and compare this to real data, in order to help them consider where and how water can be saved. During this incursion students will learn how Perth’s water sources are affected by the drying climate and the importance of water conservation.

  • Session length – 45 minutes
  • Maximum number of students – 60

Years 7–12

We will discuss how much water we all use and students will learn how to save water both at home and school. We will also discuss securing our water supply for the future.

  • Session length – 1 hour
  • Maximum number of students – unlimited
  • Learning objectives for years 7–12

    • Understand the effects of our changing climate on our water sources.
    • Understand the need to conserve water as a non-renewable resource and what we are doing to secure our water supply.
    • Be aware of personal and social responsibilities for conserving water.
