What are you doing to help business and industry use less water and recycle more water?

Reducing the amount of scheme water used by business and industry remains vital to securing Perth's water future. About 34% of recycled water across the state is used by business/ industry. A few ways we are helping business and industry reduce their water use are:

  • We have been supplying high quality recycled water from the Kwinana Water Recycling Plant to the nearby industrial area since 2004. As a result, Kwinana industry has more than halved its use of drinking water.
  • Any business that uses more than 20 million litres of scheme water a year is legally required to participate in the Water Efficiency Management Plan program. This means that they need to develop a plan that details their water saving actions and initiatives, and provide annual progress reports. Recycling is encouraged as part of these plans.
