Forrester Road Drainage Pump Station and Basin Upgrade

Project goal:

Pump Station Upgrade and Basin Dredging Works in Safety Bay.

Delivery date:

January 2020 – February 2021

What’s happening?

Water Corporation is undertaking a project to upgrade the drainage pump station and basin on Forrester Road in Safety Bay.

Drainage Basin Upgrade

Work has now begun on the drainage basin portion of the project. This work will improve the capacity of the basin and help reduce odour caused by a build-up of nutrients.

As a result of feedback received from the community we engaged additional fauna specialists to be onsite during the removal of the ‘island’. These specialists have also undertaken additional reviews of the various species in the area and implemented thorough management plans to ensure impacts are minimised as much as possible.

Drainage Pump Station Upgrade

We will be undertaking work to upgrade the mechanical and electrical infrastructure as well as replacing the pumps to improve the operability of the pump station. This will reduce the noise omitted from the ageing pumps and allow us to safely operate the pump station. This work will be carried out in February 2021 as it is safer to be carried out after the drainage basin has been upgraded and during the drier months.

Where is this happening?

The pump station and basin are located off Forrester Road in Safety Bay.

When is this taking place?

The dredging of the basin will take place between February and May 2020. Work to upgrade the pump station will occur in February 2021.

Revegetation works around the banks of the basin will be undertaken in winter 2020.

Activity on site will fluctuate depending on the stages of work however we are committed to working as quickly as possible to complete the upgrades.

Work hours will generally be 7am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday. If work is required outside of these hours we will notify you prior.

How will this impact the community?

Noise, dusty and increase in activity
Unfortunately, as with any construction activities, there will be an increase in noise, dust and activity throughout the works. Machinery including generators, excavators and cranes will be on site. We will work closely with surrounding residents to minimise disruption as much as possible.

Water Corporation acknowledges the environmental sensitivities in the area and is committed to protecting all flora and fauna throughout the works. We have engaged an environmental specialist to develop an environmental management plan which will be adhered to throughout the work.

Reinstatement of impacted areas
All areas impacted throughout the work will be reinstated to as close as original condition as possible. Revegetation around the banks of the basin will also be undertaken in Winter 2020.
