Kalgoorlie Boulder Road pipe renewal

back to current projects

Project goal:

To improve the reliability of water supply to customers in the area

Status:

Commencing soon

Delivery Date:

September 2017

To improve the reliability of supply to customers in the area, we will be replacing 1.4 kilometres of water supply main along Boulder Road. This section of pipe runs from 23 Boulder Road to 225 Boulder Road.

This pipe will be installed within the road reserve and verge adjacent to where you currently live or operate your business.

We are still finalising the construction method for installing this pipe, however it is expected that this work will mainly be completed by digging an open trench, which will be backfilled and restored.

When is this happening?

Construction is expected to start in September 2017 at this stage. As soon as we confirm the start date of this construction, we will notify you, providing advanced notice of this work.

This work is expected to take 4 months to be completed and will be staged, so we will not be working near your property or business for this entire timeframe.

Once we award the contract for this work and the schedule is finalised, we will contact you to confirm the timing of this construction near your property. We will take your feedback on board and consider this when we are finalising this schedule of work.

We visited impacted business and residents on 20 and 21 March to discuss this project, collect feedback on how we can minimise the impact of this work and collect contact details, so we can provide regular updates about this work. If you would like to receive these updates please email elecia.wheat@watercorporation.com.au.

Community impacts

To install this pipe, we will need to cross the driveways within this replacement section. This construction will also involve crossing several roads to install this pipe.

Access to your business or residence may be temporarily impacted whilst we complete this work, however we are working with customers to minimise this impact where possible, including considering the timing of when we complete particular sections of this work.

Your feedback will be taken into consideration when we are finalising the schedule for this project and how we approach this work.

We will have multiple crews working to complete this renewal work as quickly as possible. Where we are impacting driveways, we will work to ensure these are reinstated to their original condition and this work is completed in a timely fashion.

Our process

We use contractors to complete all construction work. When our contractor first arrives on site, they need to locate all underground services, such as gas, power, telecommunication cables and existing water connections. This must be completed to confirm the planned alignment of the main is suitable, and that excavation work can be undertaken safely. This process can take several days.

The contractor also needs to do other preliminary site preparation, such as arranging safety fencing, signage and lay-down areas for equipment. As a result it can appear that not much construction work is happening onsite for the first week or so. Please be assured that this site preparation is reflective of a standard work schedule.

As soon as we confirm the working hours and schedule for this work, we will be in touch with you.

Traffic management

We will develop a Traffic Management Plan in consultation with your local council to minimise disruption to road users.

Property access

Some businesses and residents driveway access may be temporarily impacted whilst we complete this work, however we are working with customers to minimise this impact where possible, including considering the timing of when we complete particular sections of this work.

We will also work with impacted businesses to ensure that at least one entrance point off Boulder Road is left open and/or consider the timing of this work out the front of businesses to minimise this impact.

If your driveway is restricted at any time and you need to enter or exit your property, please speak to one of our friendly onsite crew, who will be happy to assist.

Noise

Construction will involve noisy work, including road cutting, excavating and compacting. These activities are most noticeable at the start and finish of our work, when we cut the road and excavate, and then when we backfill and compact to reinstate the road.

Interruptions to water supplies

There may be minor interruptions to your water services while we connect your property to the new water main. If your property is affected, we will notify you before any scheduled interruptions occur.

We will only be here for a short while. Thank you for your patience while we make your water supply more reliable.
