In September 2018, we started work to improve reliability of water supply in Leeman. This work has involved the construction of a pump station, to replace the elevated tank which supplies water to the town.
We have now finished constructing the new pump station and will be removing the current elevated tank.
This work will take place between Tuesday 18 May, 2019 and Tuesday 18 June, 2019. Working hours will be between 7am and 6pm.
Where is this happening?
Work will be occurring north of Vivian Street, on Indian Ocean Drive, Leeman. See map for location.
Why is this work taking place?
To improve the reliability of water supply in Leeman.
How will this impact the community?
A 27 metre exclusion zone will be in place at this tank site and we would appreciate that the community keep away from this area, whilst work is underway.
Cranes, an excavator and construction vehicles will be in operation at this site. The tank will be pulled down in this area, cut into pieces and then transported away from this area. Local residents should expect some noise from this work, however the most noticeable noise will be limited to when the tank is dismantled and removed from the area. This part of the work is expected to take up to two days to complete.
Traffic impact along Indian Ocean Drive between Vivian Street & Lake Street in Leeman:
From 6am Tuesday 11 June, 2019 to 4.30pm Thursday 13 June, 2019 Indian Ocean Drive, between Vivian Street and Lake Street will be closed as part of this work.
Traffic management will be in place, with the road users asked to please take care and keep to 40km/h in this area. A detour for light vehicles will be in place via Morcombe Road. Heavy vehicles and emergency vehicles will be escorted through road works. The road will need to be closed to both public and heavy vehicles for duration of up to 30 minutes. Please expect delays.
Once this work is complete, customers in Leeman may notice an increase in the water pressure they receive. This means that your sprinklers may throw further and water flowing from taps, appliances and toilets (and leaks) may increase.
We recommend that you monitor the amount of water used at your property, as this may affect your water bill.

Indian Ocean Drive will need to be closed for a period of the tank removal work. Traffic signage will be erected in the area one week prior to the road closure to notify local residents. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during this period.
