In February 2018, Water Corporation began work in West Perth and Perth to refurbish ageing wastewater pipes. Sewer relining work is carried out using trenchless technology to clean access chambers and refurbish existing wastewater pipes.
Fitzgerald Street, West Perth
Work began in mid February and took 2 weeks to complete. It started from the Robertson Park Tennis Centre and progressed across Fitzgerald Street to the WA Italian Club carpark (refer to map).
Mick Michael Park, West Perth
Work began in early March and took 1 week to complete. It took place within Mick Michael Park on the corner of Charles and Violet Streets (refer to map).
Night work began Monday, 19 March and took 1 week to complete. Work started from Violet Street progressed through Mick Michael Park and continued along Charles Street.
Work began in late February and was completed by late March. It took place in sections along Mounts Bay Road, Spring Street, Irwin Street and Sherwood Court (refer to map).
Wellington and Pier Streets, Perth
Night work began in early March and took 2 weeks to complete. It took place from the Wellington and Barrack Street intersection and continued along Pier Street (refer to map).
Market and Sutherland Streets, West Perth
Night work began mid-March and took 2 weeks to complete. Work took place near the Watertown Brand Outlet Centre on Sutherland Street and continued along Market Street (refer to map).
Access to part of the Fremantle line cycle path was temporarily unavailable during this section of work, with detours in place to direct cyclists and pedestrians to shared use paths on Market and Railway Streets.
Charles Street and Beatty Park, North Perth (Bypass)
As part of the sewer relining work, the installation of a wastewater bypass pipe was required to avoid wastewater overflows. Two excavations were required to create a bypass on Charles Street to progress sewer relining work, these where located within a fenced off area in Beatty Park on the Charles Street side.
Day work began in early March and took 2 weeks to complete.
Night work began Monday, 19 March and took 1 week to complete. Work commenced from Violet Street, progressed through Mick Michael Park and continued along Charles Street.
