Water Corporation is planning to install a new 45 metre section of water reticulation pipe along the road reserve of Shea Street in Kalgoorlie, to provide a more reliable water supply to customers in the area.
The new pipe will be installed using a directional drilling method, which means we will construct the new pipeline underneath the road, to minimise traffic impacts along Shea Street.
There will be three open trenches required to complete this work, however these will all be fenced off to ensure public safety.
Before construction of the new pipe begins, surveyors will work with service locators, who will mark out the pipeline route and pothole the existing underground services in the path of this work. Following this activity, the work crew will cut and remove the asphalt within the road reserve of Shea St, before excavating the entry and exit holes for directional drilling. The new pipe will then be installed and connected to the existing pipe in this area, followed by backfilling the entrance and exit holes.
The work will occur near the rear of Bunnings, at Shea St and within the vicinity of Roberts Street. Please view this information, which shows the location of this work.
Upcoming planned interruption to water supply to some customers along Shea Street, Roberts Street and Boulder Road:
On Tuesday 12 June, 2018 along Shea Street in Kalgoorlie will experience a temporary interruption between 10am and 2pm, whilst we connect the newly installed pipeline to the existing water supply service.
We advise customers to plan for this period when water may be unavailable for up to four hours.
Please view this information for further details about this planned water supply interruption.
Special circumstances: If you have any special circumstances we need to be aware of before this essential work starts, please contact Elecia Wheat, Advisor – Community Engagement on (08) 9420 3265 or via email at Elecia.Wheat@watercorporation.com.au.
Local residents may experience medium-level construction noise from trucks, an excavator digging the entrance and exit point trenches for the new pipe and drilling when the pipe is installed. Water spraying will be applied to minimise dust from construction activities.
Traffic access and flow will be maintained throughout the duration of this work, however traffic management will be in place. Road users will be asked to keep to the reduced speed limit.
This work is expected to start on Tuesday 5 June and be completed by Tuesday 12 June 2018. Working hours will be between 7am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. Any work producing noise will occur between 8am and 5pm.
