Water Corporation customers in South Hedland and Wedgefield will experience a six-hour water outage from 10.30pm Wednesday, 9 September to 4.30am Thursday, 10 September 2015 while essential work takes place.

The water supply will be temporarily interrupted to allow critical valve replacements to be made to the water supply scheme.

Water Corporation North West Regional Manager Rino Trolio said the work would take place overnight to reduce the impact to customers.

“Customers in South Hedland and Wedgefield will be affected, however we do not anticipate any effect on water supplies for customers in Port Hedland,” Mr Trolio said.

“Once water supply resumes at 4.30am, customers may experience temporary reduced pressures and discoloured water for a few hours.

“Discoloured water generally occurs when system changes are made, which can stir up sediment that has settled in pipes and cause discolouration. This sediment is harmless and the water is safe to use.”

Mr Trolio said customers would be informed about the outage by letter and email in the coming week.

"I thank our customers in advance for their cooperation and understanding during these essential water supply works," Mr Trolio said.

South Hedland and Wedgefield customers are required to manage their own water needs during the supply interruption. For special water requirements, please call Water Corporation’s 24-hour Faults, Emergencies and Security line on 13 13 75 prior to the interruption to make alternative arrangements.
