• Changing a showerhead can save a household up to 7,000 litres of water a year
  • 650 water-efficient showerheads available for people in Goomalling, Dowerin, Nungarin, Koorda, Coolgardie and Kambalda

Water Minister Mia Davies is encouraging people in Goomalling, Dowerin, Nungarin, Koorda, Coolgardie and Kambalda to take part in a free Showerhead Swap initiative.

Started earlier this month the Showerhead Swap allows people in these towns to swap up to two old, inefficient showerheads for high-efficiency replacements free of charge.

“Households can save up to 7,000 litres of water every year by replacing their showerheads with more efficient ones,” Ms Davies said.

“To get involved you just need to take a copy of your water account and up to two old showerheads to the local shire office and exchange them for new water-efficient showerheads.”

The State Government initiative will be available to customers until September 30, 2015 and follows other successful programs in Laverton, Leonora, Merredin, York, Beverley, Southern Cross, Westonia, Bruce Rock, Bencubbin, Beacon, Trayning, Corrigin, Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Northam, Cunderdin and Toodyay.

“To date these programs have exchanged a total of 1,060 showerheads, saving up to 7.4 million litres of precious drinking water each year,” the Minister said.

“I’m pleased to see these shires working with the Water Corporation to deliver long-term water savings for residents.

“There are 650 free showerheads available through the program, so I encourage customers to take part as soon as they can.”
