Mindarie Primary School will celebrate 10 years enrolled in Water Corporation’s Waterwise Schools Program at a special ceremony to be held today.

As part of the program, teachers at the school have been educating students about the need to value, protect and conserve water resources for a decade.

Water Corporation General Manager Customer and Community Group, Catherine Ferrari, thanked the school for its dedication to the program.

"Students are the water users of the future, so its important schools continue to educate students about the value of water in our drying climate," Ms Ferrari said.

"Thank you to students and teachers for your dedication to the program and I look forward to the next decade of waterwise education at Mindarie Primary School.”

Mindarie Primary School Principal, Barbara Bromley, and Waterwise Coordinator, Lisa Turner, have worked diligently to maintain the program.

Ms Bomley said Mindarie Primary School has always encouraged students, staff and community members to work towards creating and establishing an environmentally sustainable workplace.

“We see it as important that we, as a school, are not using more resources than required to deliver teaching programs, activities and services,” Ms Bromley said.

“We look forward to and take pride in continuing our sustainable operations in the future. After all – it’s about protecting our children’s present and future environment.

“Thanks to the waterwise program our students from all year levels are actively involved in water wise activities and discussions.  Our students have increased their awareness about the need to save water.”

Now in its 20th year, Water Corporation’s award winning Waterwise Schools Program takes a long-term approach to water education and behavioural change, and complements the curriculum across all major learning areas, especially science.
