Water Corporation and City of Perth are working side by side to complete a number of upgrades along Barrack Street that will start Monday, 13 April 2015.

The works along Barrack Street will take place between St Georges Terrace and Wellington Street. Water Corporation will upgrade a water main, and City of Perth will convert Barrack Street to two-way traffic.

The two organisations are working to deliver the projects simultaneously in order to minimise disruption to the local community. Water Corporation expects the majority of the upgrade to the water main to be completed in June, with the City of Perth due to begin work in late May.

For the duration of both projects, sections of Barrack Street between St Georges Terrace and Wellington Street will be reduced to one lane northbound. Delays are expected, and road users are encouraged to take alternate routes.

Pedestrian access to businesses in the area will be maintained at all times during business hours.

These projects form part of ongoing work by Water Corporation and the City of Perth to ensure the road network and water scheme in the CBD can facilitate the future needs of our growing city.

City of Perth CEO Gary Stevenson said the conversion of Barrack Street would revive the historically important precinct and ready the CBD road network to facilitate the Elizabeth Quay development.

Water Corporation and City of Perth appreciate the community’s cooperation and understanding while these essential works are carried out.
