• Communities of Albany and Denmark invited to provide feedback on the management of water supplies to Water Corporation and Department of Water
  • Feedback sessions to be held on 24 and 25 November 2015

Water Corporation is encouraging the communities of Albany and Denmark to attend feedback sessions on the management of local water supplies planned for later this month.

The Water Corporation and Department of Water run sessions will focus on options to manage brackish water from Denmark’s new portable desalination units, and future water supply plans for Albany and Denmark.

Great Southern Regional Manager Stuart Dyson said this would be an opportunity for the community to have their say.

“Albany experienced its driest winter since records began 138 years ago, receiving just 219.6mm of rain – that is 55 per cent less rainfall than the winter average,” Mr Dyson said.

“Denmark also continues to be affected by the persistent drying climate with Water Corporation putting in place new contingencies to secure the town’s water supply ahead of this summer.”

The feedback sessions will take place on Tuesday, 24 November between 12 - 2pm at the Albany Library and on Wednesday, 25 November 5.30pm - 7:30pm at the Denmark Shire offices.

Mr Dyson said a Water Corporation plan titled Water Forever: Lower Great Southern produced in October 2010 would form the basis of discussions.

“Ongoing community input is vital to further progress the work we are doing to plan for the future,” Mr Dyson said.

“This includes the water efficiency programs Water Corporation has run to reduce water use, which will remain a critical part of all future planning.”
