• Water use calculator creates a tailored water saving plan for households
  • Water saving vital after a dry winter and a warm spring ahead

Water Corporation has asked households in Perth and Mandurah to dedicate five minutes of their time to create a water saving plan for their home.
Water Corporation spokesperson Clare Lugar said the online water use calculator allowed households to create a water saving plan, quickly and tailored for their home.
“With temperatures forecast above 30 degrees in the coming week, a water saving action plan will help you save precious water,” Ms Lugar said.
“The water use calculator uses a traffic light system to give a rating for each room of your home, including the bathroom, kitchen and living area, laundry and garden.
“This provides an overall waterwise rating for your home, compared to others of a similar size. The calculator then creates a water saving plan, personalised to you.
“By calculating the amount of water used in each area of the home, the action plan is able to hone in on areas which can achieve the most significant savings.
“You can then print, email or even share your action plan on social media. We encourage our customers to take the waterwise challenge this week and share their results on social media and encourage friends and family to become waterwise too.”
“We all need to continue our Fresh Water Thinking, especially with a long, dry spring and summer ahead.”

Perth’s drying climate:

  • Since the 1970’s Perth’s rainfall has reduced by around 15 per cent, with inflows to dams continuing to decline.
  • Perth’s dams have received the second lowest inflows on record this year, receiving only 11.1 billion litres of water to date.
  • To put that into perspective, on a hot summer’s day Perth can use around 1 billion litres of water.
