Yesterday afternoon a third party (conducting mobile telecommunications work) accidentally drilled into a wastewater main located on the corner of Safety Bay Road and Lake Street in Rockingham.

Water Corporation sent crews immediately to assist with responding to the overflow and it was stopped by about 4pm. Wastewater had overflowed over the road and into nearby Lake Richmond.

An extensive clean up began straight away, with Water Corporation crews working on site until around midnight last night.

Crews returned to the area early this morning to continue with the clean-up and begin to repair the damaged wastewater main.

Water samples from Lake Richmond were taken this morning and the results of these samples will be known later in the week. An aerial survey was also undertaken this morning and these images will be analysed.

Water Corporation continues to assist the City of Rockingham, Department of Health and Department of Environment Regulation to ensure the health and environmental impacts of this accident are minimised.
