Water Corporation is reminding residents in the Mid West that its garden sprinkler use roster remains in place throughout Autumn.

Residents living South of (and including) Kalbarri can use their sprinklers either before 9am or after 6pm, two days per week. People living in areas north of Kalbarri, can use their sprinklers every alternate day.

Water Corporation Mid-West Regional Manager Stephen Greeve, said that with 40 per cent of household water used outside the home, it was important to water efficiently in the garden.

“We encourage you to check the settings on your irrigation controller to make sure it complies with the watering roster, which is based on the last digit of your street number,” Mr Greeve said.

Mr Greeve said Water Corporation inspectors patrolled many towns in the Mid West regularly, and residents observed breaching the roster could be issued a $100 fine.

Mr Greeve said most people did the right thing when it came to abiding by the sprinkler roster, with Water Corporation research showing more than 90 per cent of Western Australians supported the two-day-a-week sprinkler roster and the winter sprinkler ban.

More information on the sprinkler roster is available at www.watercorporation.com.au/save-water/watering-days or by calling 13 13 85.

Fact file:

  • Reducing sprinkler run times by two minutes each station can save a household around 480 litres of water each week.
  • Watering in the morning is best – water soaks into the roots and is available throughout the day.
  • Irrigation systems should be turned off in winter.
  • Choosing waterwise plants that are best suited for your region require less maintenance and water.
