Mandurah Primary School was recognised as Western Australia’s 564th Waterwise School at a special assembly today.  Mandurah Primary School recognised as a Waterwise School

With assistance from the Water Corporation’s Waterwise Schools Program, teachers have been educating students about the need to value, protect and conserve our water sources.

Water Corporation General Manager Customer and Community Group, Catherine Ferrari, thanked the school for sharing the waterwise message.

“Congratulations to Mandurah Primary School for becoming a Waterwise School,” Ms Ferrari said.

“In our drying climate it is important the next generation is aware how precious water is, and the Waterwise Schools Program has been growing that awareness for the past two decades.

“An important part of ensuring our future water supply is by reducing the amount of water we all use and the Waterwise Schools Program gives students the knowledge they need to save water.”

Mandurah Primary School Waterwise Coordinator, Kirsty Meares, said it was great to see students learn about the importance of water in our community.

“The Waterwise Program in our school has educated students, parents and the wider community on the importance of water conservation and encouraged them to participate in the simple ways we can save water in the home and school,” Ms Meares said.Students at Mandurah Primary School celebrate being recognised as a Waterwise School

Representatives from the City of Mandurah also spoke to students at the assembly about saving water. The City was jointly recognised as the first Waterwise Council in Western Australia back in 2009. In August 2016, it’s Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre was recognised as a Waterwise Aquatic Centre, further demonstrating its commitment to saving water.

Now in its 21st year, Water Corporation’s Waterwise Schools Program takes a long-term approach to water education and behavioural change, and complements the curriculum across all major learning areas.
