Town of Port Hedland water supply upgrade now complete
Water Corporation has completed work on a number of water main upgrades to the East Pilbara Water Supply Scheme (EPWSS) which supplies water to the Town of Port Hedland.
Water Corporation North West Regional Manager, Rino Trolio, said the $26 million upgrades will further improve the reliability of water supply and help to provide consistent water pressure to residents and businesses in the Town of Port Hedland.
“Work was completed in July 2017 to replace 1.1 kilometres of water supply pipeline along Lukis Street and Sutherland Street in Port Hedland, and 4.5 kilometres of water supply pipeline in South Hedland,” Mr Trolio said.
“Earlier this month, work was also completed to replace over 18 kilometres of the existing Yule Borefield water supply main, which supplies water to the town from the local borefield.
“I want to thank the people of Port Hedland for their patience and understanding during this essential upgrade to the local water supply, which will ensure this important infrastructure will continue to supply water for many decades to come.”
The first stage of the upgrade began in March 2017 and by the end of the project around 110 Western Australian workers had been employed onsite.
The East Pilbara Water Supply Scheme is one of the largest in the North West, and supplies drinking water to more than 7,000 homes, businesses and other organisations in the Town of Port Hedland.
