What used to be dull and plain electrical cabinets and pump stations across the south west are now beautiful works of art thanks to Splash of Colour, Water Corporation’s community art program.

Splash of Colour enlisted a number of Western Australian artists and local high school students to turn eight pieces of Water Corporation infrastructure throughout Australind, Bunbury, Busselton and Dunsborough into vibrant pieces of public art.

Water Corporation South West A/Regional Manager Nicky Waite said the program aimed to create community identity and help brighten people’s day.

“We know some of our assets in highly visible areas look a bit ordinary, so we worked with the community to bring some life and colour to them,” Ms Waite said.

The program, which ran throughout November, invited high school students to be involved in the artists’ creative process through a number of school design workshops.

“The workshops allowed the artists to gain inspiration from the students as well as ensure the artwork was a true local reflection of the south west,” Ms Waite said.

The artists used different styles to create the murals ranging from character based artwork to lettering and typography, with water and the environment the key themes.

“We would like to thank the artists and all the students from local high schools who brought their amazing creativity to this project.”
