WA Business recognised for leading the way in water efficiency
- Waterwise Business, Waterwise Office and Waterwise Development programs have saved a combined 72 billion litres of water since 2007
Water Minister Dave Kelly has congratulated Western Australia’s top water saving businesses for saving over 12 billion litres of water last year through participating in Water Corporation programs.
Speaking at a Waterwise Business Recognition breakfast today, the Minister said 23 WA businesses and organisations have been recognised for saving as much as 50 per cent of their regular water use by participating in specialised water saving programs for business, government and industry.
These include Waterwise Business, Waterwise Office and Waterwise Development programs, which aim to reduce water use and encourage sustainable water management planning.
The three programs have contributed to more than 72 billion litres in water savings since they began, focussing on:
- Supporting businesses and other organisations using more than 20 million litres of scheme water to proactively manage water use and drive continuous improvement,
- Working with office building owners and managers assess water use, identify and implement water efficiency measures, in partnership with program partners the Property Council of Australia and City of Perth,
- Recognising the importance of designing water sensitive and liveable homes and communities, in partnership with the Urban Development Institute of Australia UDIA (WA Division) EnviroDevelopment Program.
Water Minister Dave Kelly presented some of the awards at the breakfast, which also recognised Western Australia’s newly endorsed Waterwise Councils.
Comments attributed to Water Minister Dave Kelly:
“These waterwise programs have helped a total of 326 businesses and other organisations in WA save precious water. Last year alone participants saved 12 billion litres of water, which is the equivalent of 5,300 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
“I congratulate all program participants for their commitment to water efficiency, and in particular those recognised for achieving silver, gold, platinum and champion status.
“Some participants have now been part of the program for eight years and it is encouraging to see them continue to explore new and innovative ways to save water and become more sustainable.
