Water Corporation has begun work on a number of projects to upgrade the water supply scheme in the Town of Port Hedland.

Water Corporation North West Regional Manager, Rino Trolio, said the upgrades will cater for the future growth and development of the town, which is supplied by the East Pilbara Water Supply Scheme.

“Work began in March to replace a one kilometre length of water main along Lukis Street and Sutherland Street in Port Hedland,” Mr Trolio said.

“A further 4.5 kilometre section of water main connecting the South Hedland and Port Hedland water storage tanks will also be replaced.

“These projects will improve the reliability of the water supply and are expected to be completed in late June 2017.”

Mr Trolio said the final upgrade to be completed was the replacement of the town’s supply main from the local borefield that supplies water to the town.

“We’ll be replacing about 18 kilometres of the main that delivers water from the Yule Borefield,” Mr Trolio said.

“This work is underway and we expect it will be completed in late July 2017.

“Replacing these sections of pipeline will provide a more reliable water supply and more consistent pressure for our customers in the Town of Port Hedland.

“I thank the local community for their patience while we carry out this essential work.”
