Water Corporation has been advised by the Department of Health that a warning against swimming and fishing, within a section of the Denmark River, has now been lifted.

The precautionary warning was in place after a wastewater overflow occurred last Thursday, 9 November 2017.

It applied to recreational water-based activities in the section of Denmark River from the South Coast Bridge, downstream to Wilson Inlet.

Signage in the area has now been removed, following advice from the Department of Health, based on extensive water sampling.

The overflow was caused by a break in a pipe that conveys wastewater from properties in Denmark to the local treatment plant for processing.  Water Corporation had completed its repairs by Thursday evening, and will conduct a thorough investigation into why the break occurred.

Water Corporation again apologises for the overflow and for any inconvenience caused.
