New water pipes for West Leederville
Water Corporation will begin work next week in West Leederville to replace around five kilometres of water mains as part of the Pipes for Perth program.
Many of the water mains in West Leederville were installed around 100 years ago and are coming to the end of their life.
Water Corporation General Manager Assets Delivery Mark Leathersich said investing in new water mains ensured the reliability of the water supply for people living and working in some of Perth’s oldest suburbs.
“The Pipes for Perth program reduces the likelihood of breaks in the water network, and will help to ensure a reliable water supply for decades to come,” Mr Leathersich said.
“We will ensure the community is kept updated about the progress of work through West Leederville, and will minimise impacts on residents and businesses wherever possible,” he said.
“There will be temporary impacts on the community during construction, including the reduction of on-street parking, road detours and excavations in verges where necessary, and we will contact local residents and businesses with further information.”
“Verges and driveways will be reinstated after the work has been completed.”
“We thank the local community and road users for their patience while we carry out this essential work.”
Mr Leathersich said work would be carried out in stages to minimise disruption, and will start on Newnham and Warwick Streets starting the week of 27 November.
