Water Corporation has advised people not to swim or fish in the Denmark River from the South Coast Bridge downstream to Wilson Inlet.

Health warning signs have been erected after a wastewater overflow occurred earlier today.

Wastewater overflowed from a broken wastewater main near the corner of Hollings Road and Walker Street in Denmark. A quantity of wastewater made its way into the Denmark River.

Warning signs have been erected near the Denmark River where the overflow occurred and downstream near the caravan park.

The Department of Health will notify Water Corporation and the Shire of Denmark when these signs can be removed based on the results of extensive water sampling.

Water Corporation crews attended the broken wastewater main within 30 minutes of it being reported this morning, with tankers on site to remove wastewater while repairs were under way. Repairs to the break will be completed later this evening.

Water Corporation apologies for the overflow and for any inconvenience caused.
