• Water Corporation programs to help residents and business in Onslow, Halls Creek and Fitzroy Crossing save water

  • Karratha residents saved over 147 million litres of water in 2016-17, with help from water saving initiatives

New programs to encourage residents and businesses to save water are being launched this week by Water Corporation in the towns of Onslow, Halls Creek and Fitzroy Crossing.

Water Corporation North West Regional Manager Rino Trolio said the water saving programs would offer around 1,200 residents various incentives including free waterwise retrofits, home plumbing checks and leak repairs.

Mr Trolio said the new programs followed on from a similar one recently finished in Karratha which led to residents saving 147 million litres of water in 2016-17.

“That’s the equivalent of 65 Olympic-sized swimming pools, and I congratulate the people of Karratha for their outstanding efforts in saving precious drinking water,” Mr Trolio said.

Onslow residents and businesses would be able to monitor their water use daily through Water Corporation’s online service known as My Water. Water use is recorded hourly and uploaded to My Water on a daily basis through smart water meters.

Water Corporation will install 144 additional smart water meters in Halls Creek this month, giving residents and businesses greater access to water use data.

Mr Trolio said Water Corporation would soon be contacting residents and businesses in Onslow, Halls Creek and Fitzroy Crossing to outline exactly how they can participate in their town’s water saving program.
