• You are charged for the water you use in your home and garden.
  • Your water use is charged at a dollar per kilolitre price.
  • The price per kilolitre depends on which water use tier you're in.

You are charged for the amount of water your household uses. You can find the amount of water you’ve used and your meter reading details on the back of your bill under ‘Meter Reading Details’.

We take a meter reading every 2 months to find out how much water you have used. Your water use charge on each bill is the difference between your last and current meter reading and is measured in kilolitres (kL).

If you are a business customer please visit our commercial (non-residential) water charges pages to find out more about your water use charges.

How are water use charges calculated?

Water use charges vary depending on where you live. Charges also work differently for properties that share a water meter, such as a unit complex.

We have a tiered pricing system to encourage the careful use of water. The more water you use, the higher the price per kilolitre. Please note if you live in Brighton Estate additional charges apply.

Your account starts in tier 1 (the lowest tier) at the beginning of your meter reading year. If you have jumped to tier 2 or 3 within your meter reading year, you will revert to tier 1 when your new meter reading year starts.

Meter reading year explained: Your meter reading year runs for a total of 12 months. At the end of your meter reading year, your water use account resets to 0 kL (tier 1), and then lowest water tier price is applied at the start of your new meter reading year. Your meter reading year ends between January and June each year. Check the back of your bill to see when your meter year ends.
