Project goal:

We will be upgrading the wastewater infrastructure within the City of Cockburn to cater for the growing community.

Status:

In planning

Delivery Date:

2025

What's happening?

We are proposing to construct new wastewater infrastructure to help cater for the continued growth in the City of Cockburn.

The infrastructure includes;

  • A new 5.6km wastewater pipeline
  • Upgrades to the existing Clementine Boulevard wastewater pump station
  • Construction of a new 4.7m control tower on Elderberry Drive near South Lake Primary School

What is a 'hydraulic control point/control tower?'

The purpose of the control tower is to ensure the pipeline remains full of wastewater at all times, as having air in the pipeline can lead to hydraulic pumping issues.

Where is this happening?

The wastewater pump station will be upgraded on Clementine Boulevard in Treeby. The new pipeline will be installed from Solomon Road in Treeby through Little Rush Lake and finishing on Osprey Drive. The hydraulic control point will be installed along Elderberry Drive in South Lake.

Why is this taking place?

The Jandakot area is currently experiencing high development growth, which requires new and upgraded infrastructure to service the growing community.

When is this taking place?

We are in the delivery phase, with the project progressing through approvals. We anticipate that construction will begin in early-mid 2025.

How will this impact the community?

As with any construction activities there will be an increase in noise, dust and activity in the area. There will also be temporary impacts to roads, verges and pedestrian paths.

As the pipeline will be installed through the environmentally sensitive Little Rush Lake, we have worked closely with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA), the City of Cockburn and our environmental team, to minimise any potential impact to the regional park during and after construction.

We will be tunnelling underneath the Kwinana Freeway, and working closely with the Public Transport Authority of WA and Main Roads to ensure the work is completed safely and efficiently.

We follow a thorough reinstatement process to ensure all impacted areas are replaced like for like, where practically possible. We will also work closely with the City of Cockburn and residents to ensure all reinstatements are carried out to an acceptable and high standard.

Verge trees

It is likely that some verge trees will need to be removed on Elderberry Drive, Tarndale Way and South Lake Drive to allow sufficient access to lay the pipe; however, all significant trees will be retained. We are working closely with the City of Cockburn on a reinstatement plan which will be implemented after construction work is complete.
