Project goal:

We are lowering the water level in Lake Kununurra to complete a package of critical maintenance works to our irrigation assets in Kununurra, including the Ord River Diversion Dam.

Status:

The lowering of Lake Kununurra - Cancelled
Minor works along M1 channel offtake structure - In planning

Delivery Date:

Deferred until 2022

When is it happening?

We wish to advise customers that due to weather conditions and the lack of rain forecast for the next few weeks, Water Corporation is no longer lowering the level of Lake Kununurra. At this stage, the majority of the works will be deferred until next year (2022).

Minor works are still planned for February along the M1 channel offtake structure near the Pump House restaurant.

Why is this work important?

This program of works is delivered annually and is important to maintain our key irrigation assets in Kununurra.

What are the impacts?

As the lake will not be lowered, there are no impacts to boats and barges on Lake Kununurra, Packsaddle and Crossing Falls. Similarly, there is no impact to pumping and other ancillary equipment in the vicinity of the Ord River.

Traffic Management
Only minor works are planned for February along the M1 channel offtake structure near the Pump House restaurant. Traffic Management will be in place at different times on Lakeview Drive while works are underway. Detours will allow access to properties along Lakeview Drive to be fully maintained.
