Project goal:

To reline 1.2km of the Cottesloe Sewer Main to help ensure the continued safety and reliability of our wastewater services.

Status:

In construction

Delivery Date:

May – September 2025

What’s happening?

Water Corporation will soon be starting work to reline three sections (equating to 1.2km) of the Cottesloe Sewer Main. This is to help ensure the continued safety and reliability of our wastewater services within the Town of Cottesloe. This work will be carried out by Water Corporation's authorised contractor, Interflow.

To help minimise disruption to the community, work will take place overnight when wastewater flows are at their lowest. This allows us to complete the work efficiently while reducing the risk of odours, overflows, an impacts to a daily household activities.

Please see the map for details on the work areas.

When is this happening?

Construction is expected to begin on Monday 19 May 2025 and will take approximately 4 months to complete. Work will take place on weeknights between 6pm and 6am. Interflow will progressively work downstream across the project area. Typically, we will be active in each local area for a few nights, depending on progress and site conditions.

Why is this work taking place?

To ensure our central wastewater system continues to be safe and reliable. The work will extend the life of this important infrastructure by at least 50 years.

What to expect:

As with any construction activities, there will be an increase in noise, dust, light, and truck activity in the area. There will also be temporary impacts to roads, vergers, and pedestrian paths. Traffic management will be in place for the safety of the work crew and community. We will aim to reduce these impacts where possible.

Although most work will occur during the week, some additional out of hours work may be required to ensure work is completed within the required timeframe. We will endeavour to keep this to a minimum.

Will this impact my water supply?

This is a wastewater project and will therefore not impact your water service. Should you have any issues with your water supply, please contact our Faults Team on 13 13 75.

What can I do?

  • Please close all toilet lids if possible, during the work period, this can help to prevent unnecessary odours and spillages.
  • If you experience any unwanted odour in your bathroom, please flush your toilet and pour some tap water down floor drain.
  • Please minimise the use of toilets or water going down the drain during this work.
  • Please contact our contractor Interflow if you are concerned about impacts from this project on your property.
    •  Daniel Frendo (Interflow Senior Site Supervisor) - 0427 566 168
    • Steve Faulkner (Interflow Project Manager) - 0438 272 610
  • Photographs will be taken of the surrounding areas before work begins to ensure the area is reinstated to its original condition.

HOW DOES IT WORK
Step 1 - Pipes are checked via CCTV
To determine exactly what we need to do to fix them.
Step 1 - Pipes are checked via CCTV
Step 2 - Pipes are cleaned
High pressure water is jetted through the pipes. It may cause some odour or on a rare occasion, spurting from your toilet. We therefore advise to keep the toilet lid down. If water does spurt out of the toilet, please contact the Interflow Project Manager immediately.
Step 1 - Pipes are cleaned
Step 3 - Pipes are relined
A new liner is installed inside the old pipe by a machine and forms a new pipe.
Step 3 - Pipes are relined

Step 4 - New pipe is connected
Lateral lines (property connections) are reconnected to the new pipe and junctions are sealed to protect the new pipe. This opens the connection to provide access to the system.
Step 4 - New pipe is connected
Step 5 - Pipes are checked
This ensures that the job has been done properly. If we find any issues, we'll come back and fix it. We may need to return to the area to repeat the above steps.
