Project goal:

We are constructing a wastewater pipeline in Kenwick to extend our wastewater service within the City of Gosnells.

Status: In planning

What’s happening?

To help cater for the growing community, we are planning to upgrade wastewater infrastructure in Kenwick. This will provide properties in Kenwick with a wastewater service. This project is part of the state government’s Strategic Water Infrastructure Program (SWIP). SWIP supports the potential to deliver more than 15,000 new homes across Perth.

This project will be delivered in two stages.

Where is this happening?

Stage One, will include the construction of 420 metres of wastewater pipeline from the existing pipeline near Kenwick School to Staplehurst Street in Kenwick. This stage does not include property connections to the wastewater network.

Stage Two includes the construction of approximately 1.7 Kilometres of wastewater pipeline along Wanaping Road, Park Road, Kenwick Road and Stafford Road in Kenwick. Once complete nearby properties will be able to connect to the wastewater network. We will provide more information about this stage once we have finished the design.

Stage One impacts?

Construction impacts

To minimise the impact to the environment and the community, the pipeline will be installed using trenchless technology during Stage One. This construction method means that noise and land impacts will be reduced during the pipe installation.

This technology will require five pipe entry/exit points, noted in the map of the work area for Stage One. During the construction of these access points, there may be some noise, dust, and minor vibrations. This will be kept to a minimum and we are committed to working with residents to minimise these impacts.

Traffic management

Traffic management and detours may be required. Please see Project Updates tab for information once construction starts.

Property access

Access to some properties may be restricted during construction. If access is obstructed, we will get in touch to arrange alternative access.

Kenwick Train Station car park

Sections of the Kenwick Train Station Car Parks may be closed for the duration of the project. More information will be provided closer to construction.

Restorations of impacted areas
Our construction methods mean unavoidable impacts to the verge, kerbs, and the road. We follow through reinstatement process to ensure all impacted areas are replaced like for like, where practically possible.

We will work closely with residents and the City of Gosnells to ensure all reinstatements are carried out to an acceptable standard.

We have received in principle approval from all external agencies for the first stage of the Kenwick Strategic Water Infrastructure Program (SWIP). With these approvals in place, we’ll soon begin a competitive contractor tender process for the construction of Stage One.

Stage One, which is the 420 metres-long pipeline from near Kenwick Primary School to Staplehurst Street, is waiting for approval from outside agencies. These approvals are necessary because the pipeline crosses areas owned by other organisations.

When approvals have been secured, the project will proceed to the contractor selection phase, which may take up to six months.  Once a contractor is onboard, they will submit their construction methodology and installation approach for final approval by transport agencies. Construction will commence only after this approval is granted.

Stage Two is the 1.7-kilometre pipeline along local roads and connection points for properties. It has been progressing while we wait for Stage One approvals and is still in design phase. Engineering surveys (checks of the ground and soil) were completed earlier this year.

We are currently working through external approvals for Stage 1. An update will be provided in early-2025 when more information is available.
