Margaret River wastewater pipeline
Project goal:
We are upgrading the wastewater infrastructure to continue providing reliable wastewater services to the community of Margaret River.
Status:
In Planning.
Delivery Date:
The proposed work is scheduled to commence in early 2026.
What’s happening?
To maintain a reliable wastewater service in Margaret River, Water Corporation is planning to upgrade the wastewater infrastructure connected to the Lantana Lane Wastewater Pump Station.
This upgrade will include the construction of a new 2.6km pipeline. The new pipeline will divert flow directly to Margaret River Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF).
The new pipeline will be below-ground and will be constructed by a combination of open trench and trenchless methods.
Why is this being proposed?
These upgrades will increase the capacity and reliability of the Margaret River sewer scheme, catering the growing community.
Where is this happening?
The work will take place along the route shown on the map below, starting at the existing Lantana Lane Wastewater Pump Station.
It will follow Riverslea Drive, pass beneath the Margaret River, and continue along Perimeter Road. The new pipeline will connect at the Margaret River Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF).

When is this taking place?
Construction is planned to commence early 2026 and is estimated to take 12 months to complete. Further information on start dates and work times will be provided closer to the time.
How will this impact me?
Water Corporation and its contractors endeavour to minimise impacts where possible and we thank you for your patience while these remedial works are completed.
Construction impacts
The proposed pipeline will be constructed below-ground, largely in road reserves and verges. We do not anticipate there to be any direct trenching impacts to surrounding properties.
As with any construction activities, there will be an increase in noise, dust, and activity in the area. There will also be temporary impacts to roads, verges and pedestrian paths.
All areas impacted by the work will be returned to as close to their original condition as possible.
To ensure the work can be completed safely, we may need to restrict parts of the road during construction. When this happens, traffic management and detours will be in place to help direct traffic around the work area.
Environmental impacts
We have worked closely with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA), the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River, Forest Product Commission and our environmental team, to minimise any potential impact to the area during and after construction
We are planning to use horizontal directional drilling to cross underneath Margaret River and Perimeter Road.
