Oakford Bridge Replacement
Project goal:
Culvert bridge 187 replacement on Orton Road, Oakford (between Kargotich Rd and King Rd).
Delivery Date:
Construction will be ongoing for the duration from 7 January 2026 to 3 April 2026.
What's happening?
Water Corporation will soon begin work to replace Bridge 187 along Orton Road between Kargotich Road and King Road, Oakford. This work will improve the safety and long-term reliability of the bridge.
Bridge 187 currently has a 16-tonne load limit, which restricts heavy vehicles and raises safety concerns. Replacing the bridge will restore full load capacity, improve safety and support future growth in the area. Temporary road closure is required to achieve:
- Remove existing bridge structure
- Construct new bridge sub structure and place new culverts
- Install new guard rails and construct new road surface on top of the bridge structure
- Ensure safety of public and crews during construction
The road will be closed between King Road and Kargotich Road, with detours and closure shown below:
Why is this happening?
Originally constructed in 1970, the bridge has been deemed no longer suitable to safely accommodate current and future traffic volumes on Orton Road
When is it happening?
Late 2025- late 2026.
