Project goal:

Upgrade water supply infrastructure in The Vines Estate to ensure that we can supply water at a regulated pressure

Type of project:

Water infrastructure

New water infrastructure

This project is part of the City of Swan water upgrades

Status:

In construction

Delivery Date:

July 2026

What’s happening?

Water Corporation is upgrading the water supply infrastructure in The Vines, within the City of Swan. This project, along with others is part of a long-term plan and package of work to improve water supply and pressure in the area.

This new infrastructure includes

  • Installation of a Pressure Control Cabinet at The Vines Golf & Country Club near Vines Avenue pedestrian crossing.

  • Installation of 150m of water main along Vines Avenue

  • Connecting newly installed water main to the Pressure Control Cabinet.

  • Reinstatement of affected areas, including Vines Ave and associated verges.

When is this happening?

We have commenced construction in June 2026. Work will take approximately 8 weeks to complete.

Where is this happening?

Construction will start just north of Bordeaux Lane Intersection and run south along Vines Avenue.

Single lane closure will occur around the worksite during construction, and a temporary traffic light system will be in established to guide traffic through the area.

Why is this taking place?

Water supply in The Vines is currently serviced by two ageing tanks which will soon be decommissioned and replaced by a larger tank in Ellenbrook. This new tank sits at a higher elevation than the previous two. As such, we need to have mechanisms in place to ensure the water pressure is controlled, for the safety of our local community, and our operators.

How will this impact the community?

As with any construction activities there will be an increase in noise and dust in the area. Local access to properties within the construction area will be maintained. Traffic management will be in place throughout the work to ensure the safety of road users and the community.

We understand and appreciate that this may cause temporary inconvenience and disruption to users of the Golf Course and residents nearby, and we are committed to working with you to minimise this as much as possible.

Planned water supply interruptions

We will let you know about any planned interruptions to your water supply well in advance.

To minimise disruption, any planned outages will be late in the evening and/or early in the morning and will only last for a short period of time.

Reinstatement

We follow a thorough reinstatement process to ensure all impacted areas are replaced like for like, where practically possible. Unfortunately, our work will result in unavoidable impact to roads and verges. Once our new infrastructure is in the ground, the section of open trench along Vines Avenue will be backfilled, compacted, and reinstated. We will work closely with you, City of Swan and other residents to ensure all reinstatements are carried out to an acceptable and high standard.

As part of this work, we'll soon be required to temporarily change the direction of water flow in The Vines on the dates below. You may notice occasional discoloured water between:

Monday, 22 June and Wednesday, 1 July 2026

This is due to natural sediment in the pipes being stirred up during the work. Your water is still safe to use and will clear with normal use.

What to expect:
  • You may also experience reduced or intermittent changes in your water pressure.
  • While we don't expect any interruption to your water supply during these works, we ask that you use water mindfully during this time. Please keep showers to 4 minutes or less, turn off the tap while brushing your teeth, and consider adjusting your usual laundry routine. We apologise for the impacts of this work and thank you for your patience and understanding.

Our authorised contractor, DM Civil, will soon install 150 metres of water main along Vines Avenue in The Vines to connect to existing infrastructure. This essential work will improve water supply in The Vines, shaping the area’s water future.

Work is scheduled to begin in late June and will take approximately eight weeks to complete.

What to expect:
  • To keep everyone safe during the work period, we’ll close a single lane of Vines Avenue starting south of the Vines Avenue continuing just north of the Bordeaux Lane intersection.
  • A temporary traffic light system will be in place to guide traffic through the area.
  • We’ll maintain full access to properties and businesses.
  • Work will take place from 7am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. The closure will remain in place for the full work period, including overnight.
  • You may notice an increase in noise, dust and activity in the area.
We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding.
