Project goal:

We are upgrading the 10.2km Yokine to Belmont water pipeline.

Status:

In progress.

Delivery Date:

Mid-2027.

What’s happening?

Our Yokine to Belmont water main is a 10.2-kilometre pipeline that delivers water from the Mt Yokine Reservoir through Dianella, Bedford, Bayswater, Ascot and Belmont to the Belmont Pump Station.

To cater for future growth and demand, we will be upgrading the pipeline over a staged approach from now until mid 2027.

Why is this happening?

The Yokine to Belmont water main will support Perth's next major water source, the Alkimos Seawater Desalination Plant, and the Eglinton Groundwater Scheme (starting in 2028). The water main will be 70 years old by 2028 and requires some minor upgrades to optimise reliability and operability for these new demands.

When is this happening?

The upgrades will be scheduled over four stages to minimise impacts on surrounding communities and work with asset availability windows. These windows include September to October 2025, May and September 2026, and May 2027.

Where is this happening?

Please see the ‘Work Areas’ tab for scheduled locations.

How will this impact the community?

Nearby residents may notice some more activity than usual, noise and dust during the works. We plan to be in each work site for only three to five days before moving to the next one. If required, traffic management will be in place to direct people around the work area.

Some work sites will be within residential verges. If the Contractor is working in your verge, we will contact you ahead of time to discuss the work.

Molloy Reserve (between Molloy and Eastland Streets) in Dianella will have a 3m x 3m work area within the park from 25 September 2025 for around five days.

There will be two locations on the pipeline in October 2025 that will be upgraded. They will both be 3m x 3m work areas and require around five days work:

  1. Corner of Essex Street and the Strand, Bayswater. This work will be within the verge and won’t require traffic management.

  2. Corner of Milne and Williamson Street, Bayswater. This work will be mostly in the verge but will extend slightly into the road and therefore require some traffic management during the work.

No work scheduled for the first stage of this project.
